Learning Management
Communication is important across all learning environments. I use Canvas to help build relationships, connect students to the learning space, make announcements, provide feedback to students and parents, and create a structured and routine learning environment. I communicate regularly, clearly, and positively. I provide written feedback on assignments, check in with students when we’re in person, and reach out to families both by phone and email to communicate student progress.

Assessment
Formative assessment methods help me to determine pace (too quick/slow/just right), to consider community and relationship building (am I providing enough opportunities for students to collaborate), to adjust level of difficulty (too hard/easy/just right), to clarify instructions if the work I provide is too complicated or confusing, and to fine-tune my organization (is all work planned, created, and available). Summative assessments indicate what a student has learned at the conclusion of a unit. As a special education teacher, I collaborate with general education teachers on how to best accommodate summative assessments for diverse learners. I participate in professional development workshops and in professional learning communities to learn about educational technologies that can be used to support authentic and performance-based assessment.
